When we first got engaged we were constantly asked why we were getting married so young and told we were rushing things.
However, we thought differently.

Sam and I got engaged just 5 months after meeting which, as people were right to say, was very fast. But it was not “too fast”. I’m sure you would agree with us when we say that everyone is different, unique, and so are their experiences. So although 5 months may be too fast for some people; for us it was the perfect timing.
Our first date was probably the most awkward date ever, it included a lot of awkward silences and burping in Nando’s over lunch. However by 11pm (he was due to be gone by 7!) we couldn’t stop chatting and laughing and when he finally left I immediately knew that I would marry him.

The date finished with a really awkward first kiss! Like really awkward At this point Abi still lived in Leicester so I had an hours drive home of processing what just happened (the whole date not just that kiss!). I didn’t tell Abi this until our engagement but I also knew immediately on my way home that I wanted to marry her.
We can’t remember how it came up but somehow marriage came up in conversation and to my surprise we were both on the same page. So a few month after this I proposed to Abi in the middle of a field, at 11pm at Big Church Day Out (a christian music festival… its cool… check it out). And guess what…. SHE SAID YES!
U S
Back to the point of this blog, moving fast and getting married young…
Like we said earlier, we knew straight away we wanted to marry each other and before we started speaking about it, it was something we both prayed about separately. As time went on, it became more and more obvious that it was part of God’s plan for us to marry – we just needed to figure out when.
We came to the decision that because we were so confident in this, we didn’t want to wait around. Abi (having planned her wedding on Pinterest since she discovered it) really wanted to have a summer wedding so after realising Sam will finish uni at the end of June we decided the beginning of July would be the best time.
A little fun fact for you, we are getting married exactly 18 months after our first date. (11th Jan 2019 – 11th July 2020). We totally can see how some people think this is way too fast as we haven’t been together long and are both still very young, but we know, and so do the people around us, that this is the perfect timing for us.
So overall, yeah we’re getting married fast and at a very young age. And it may also be a stereotypically Christian thing to do but we’ve handed over control of this to God and his timing is ultimately much better than any of ours – even if we don’t understand it!
